We are a vibrant Conservative synagogue in Northern Westchester just one hour from Manhattan and less than 5 miles from the majestic Hudson River. We are proud to be a choice for families, interfaith couples, empty nesters, singles of all ages, and members of the LGBTQ community. Are you searching for a welcoming, dynamic environment? Then perhaps First Hebrew is right for you.

First Hebrew’s members are active and involved. With Committees like Social Action, Programming, Sisterhood and Men’s Club we are able to provide a wide array of programs and events that inspire involvement. For decades our Rabbis have worked closely with the members of PAPA (Peekskill Area Pastors Association) — to build a close knit interdenominational community which provides healing and support during difficult times. In 2014, PAPA and dedicated volunteers planted the seeds for “The Garden of Hope” located in Yorktown. The garden produced over 1300 pounds of vegetables in its inaugural year — all of which were donated to local shelters. First Hebrew members regularly volunteer and provide resources to the soup kitchen, local food pantry and homeless shelter. We gather clothes during the winter months and host speakers who inform us and who lead discussions on topics as wide ranging as Gun Safety, Voter Rights, Cancer, Insurance, teenage drug use, suicide and more. Men’s Basketball continues to be a popular choice for our athletes. We strive to open doors and open eyes!

We host Menorah lightings, participate in rallies, walking tours of  “Old Peekskill” and commemorations … and we also proudly welcome the community to “our house”. In the late fall First Hebrew hosts a Craft Fair with over 40 vendors. Throughout the year we hold Family Shabbat services, Riverfront Services,  Chanukah Dinners and Shabbat Across America. We work with PAPA and others in our community to plan a meaningful, hopeful Yom Hashoah service, and our early summer BBQ is an inclusive event with food, activities and entertainment for all our members and families! And each year we celebrate and honor one of our members for their work and dedication to our community.
