First Hebrew’s Social Action committee is dedicated to feeding the hungry in our community. We also provide a forum for informational programming on issues like gun safety and drug abuse.
As part of our mission, we provide monthly meals (second Monday of the month) for the local Soup Kitchen for approximately 80 people. Sometimes we cook together and other times, we prepare meals in our own homes. In addition to fighting hunger, the committee provides informational programs about vital community issues. Last year we had a very successful discussion about kids and safe gun storage. This year we plan to address suicide prevention and the heroin epidemic in the Hudson Valley.
We always welcome new volunteers to this committee. Any assistance you might wish to provide, whether by cooking a meal, donating money, food or scrip gift cards to local supermarkets is appreciated.
