The Westchester Jewish Council and a wide range of Jewish organizations in Westchester are partnering with the organization Neighbors Link on various projects to assist new immigrants. First Hebrew will be participating in two of these Mitzvah projects.
The first project seeks to provide Target gift cards of any amount for Unaccompanied Children (UAC’s) and teens coming from the southern border and receiving immigration legal services at the Neighbors Link Community Law Practice. These young people need to purchase school supplies and clothing. Neighbors Link model of empowerment allows these children and teens to navigate their own shopping experience and select their items. You can double your Mitzvah by purchasing Target gift cards through our FHC Scrip program! Any Target gift cards can be dropped off in the synagogue office.
The second project is a collection for sample-size personal care items such as shampoo, soap, razors, shaving cream, deodorant for a small group of homeless/housing insecure immigrant day workers (mostly men) in northern Westchester. These items will be distributed throughout the winter as Neighbors Link works with houses of worship to make emergency shelter available in the coldest months of the year. There will be a collection box in the synagogue coatroom for the personal care items.
